An olive tree for life
Pierre Fabre Italy, the Klorane Botanical Foundation and San Patrignano have a shared commitment to the conservation of plant heritage and respect for humankind. These common values have given life to a new socio-educational project "An olive tree for life."
Rehabilitation by working the land
This collaboration, which began in September 2015, will extend until spring of 2018. Over the course of these 4 years, Pierre Fabre Italy and the Klorane Botanical Foundation will support San Patrignano in its mission of rehabilitation by working the land. One thousand additional olive trees (of the local historical varieties Correggiolo and Rossina) will be planted for the production of PDO certified olive oil. This will add another 3 hectares to one of San Patrignano's largest crops, which today includes 10 hectares of cultivated land and 3,000 olive trees.
A socio-educational project
Founded 30 years ago in the town of Coriano, in the hills of Emilie‑Romagne overlooking Rimini and the Adriatic Sea, the San Patrignano community takes in young people suffering from various types of dependencies, including drug addiction. Here, the long road to recovery and reintegration into society is paved with rules, sharing and love.
Initiatives carried out with respect for nature, plant heritage conservation and the land
A social and formative journey very much in line with the values of the Klorane Botanical Foundation: since the beginning, the foundation has focused on initiatives carried out with respect for nature, plant heritage conservation and the land. For these young people on a journey to recovery, being in touch with nature, its rhythms and seasons helps to rediscover values long forgotten.
The first 300 olive trees donated by the Klorane Botanical Foundation were planted in spring 2016. They will be cultivated using organic methods, with the utmost respect for the region's biodiversity.
Over the coming years, the young residents of San Patrignano will maintain the olive trees and harvest the olives to extract the precious oil produced from the land of this community.
Thanks to this collaboration, San Patrignano hopes to obtain the DOP certification "Colline di Romagna" for these new olive tree fields.
The support provided by Pierre Fabre Italy and the Klorane Botanical Foundation enables San Patrignano to increase its olive oil production which is then sold to the public, helping the community to remain financially independent as it provides full support to the young people in its care.
